Jonah Keri lists The 18 best Jewish ballplayers of all time.
Sandy Koufax ranks #1 as he decided to put his religious beliefs ahead of his pitching career and refused to play on Yom Kippur in 1965.
By the way: the number "18" in Hebrew numerology, stands for the word "Chai," meaning "life", so this is not a top 10 list.

I never thought I would be debunking the joke from the movie Airplane! about "Famous Jewish Sports Legends," but how's this: Did you know that a Jewish kid from New York scored the first basket in the NBA? And that that kid's name was Ossie Schectman, from Brooklyn! (Where else!) For Jewish immigrants, especially youth, sports played an important role in helping them assimilate. By the 1920s, almost all urban Jewish neighborhoods had a basketball team. So when Ossie made the first basket for the New York Knickerbockers back in 1946, who knew it was the precursor of today’s NBA? And how did I learn this? From a documentary called: The First Basket. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations picked the  2021 Theme: Yoga for well-being . PlayersPrayers is back

It's been 10 years since we decided to suspend PlayersPrayers. A lot has happened since. Our three kids have established themselves in their own sports: swimming, MMA, and baseball. But most recently, the global COVID-19 pandemic has driven followers of sports and spirituality more to the screens. I recently attend my first in-person professional sporting event in over 18 months. We have begun to attend in-person church again. In our area poeple are going back to church and stadium. The intersection of sports and spirituality remains alive and well, and PlayersPrayers is back to shed some light on it. We remain open to all faiths and sports with an international perspective. Our platform may adjust. For now, Blogger is around and working, as are Twitter and and Youtube. All these channels will receive significant updates in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
